IPTV on a Samsung or LG Smart TV Without a Box: What Works, What Doesn’t, and How to Set It Up

Le 24 Oct, 2026

Running IPTV on a Samsung or LG smart TV without a box is perfectly doable, but it comes with limits that nobody tells you about before you buy. The TV’s own app store, its processor and its remote all shape the experience. This guide explains what actually works on Tizen (Samsung) and webOS (LG), what does not, and the exact steps we follow when we set up a customer’s TV with nothing but the TV itself.

IPTV on a Samsung or LG smart TV: what works without a box

Both platforms have an app store with several independent IPTV players. The ones we install most often are IPTV Smarters Pro (available on Samsung and LG in most regions), Smart IPTV (SIPTV), IBO Player and Flix IPTV. Each of them accepts the Xtream Codes login or the M3U link you receive after ordering a plan on our pricing page, and each can display a programme guide (EPG) if the provider supplies one.

On a TV built in the last five or six years, live channels in HD and Full HD play without any trouble, including the H.265 (HEVC) streams. Video on demand works too, with resume-from-where-you-stopped on most apps. Favourites, channel groups and a PIN lock on categories are available in the main players, which matters if you have added the optional 18+ package: that category stays hidden behind a code and never appears in the normal channel list.

What does not work, or works badly

  • Older models (roughly before 2016 on Samsung, before webOS 3 on LG): the store is thin, apps are no longer updated, and HEVC decoding is often missing. Many channels will show a black screen or a loading wheel.
  • Sideloading: unlike Android TV, you cannot install an APK. If an app is not in the store for your country, it is not an option on that TV.
  • Multiple audio tracks and subtitle switching: supported by some apps, ignored by others, depending on the TV firmware.
  • Recording: TV apps have no access to a USB drive for IPTV recordings, so timeshift and recording are generally out.
  • Heavy playlists: the TV’s limited RAM makes a playlist with many thousands of channels slow to load, and a few apps crash during EPG refresh.

Samsung vs LG: a practical comparison

Point Samsung (Tizen) LG (webOS)
Store availability of IPTV apps Good, varies by region Good, varies by region
HEVC decoding Most models since 2016 Most models since webOS 3
App installation Store only Store only
Remote navigation Standard or Smart Remote, pointer not needed Magic Remote pointer, fast for long lists
Typical weak point App auto-closes when memory is low Buffer stalls on Wi-Fi during EPG load

Step-by-step setup on a Samsung TV

  1. Press Home, open Apps, and search for the player you want (for example IPTV Smarters Pro or IBO Player). Install it.
  2. Open the app. For Smarters Pro choose Login with Xtream Codes API, then type the username, password and server URL exactly as they appear in your welcome message. A single wrong character in the URL (http vs https, a missing port) is the number one cause of “invalid details”.
  3. For apps that use a MAC address (IBO Player, Flix IPTV, Smart IPTV), note the address shown on the first screen and send it to us by WhatsApp. We attach your playlist to it; the TV then loads the channels after a restart of the app.
  4. Go to Settings inside the app and set the stream format to M3U8 (HLS) if you are on Wi-Fi, or TS if the TV is on an Ethernet cable. HLS tolerates signal drops better; TS starts faster.
  5. Enable the EPG, then leave the app open for a couple of minutes: the first guide download is the heaviest operation the TV will do.

Step-by-step setup on an LG TV

  1. Press the Home button, scroll to the LG Content Store, and search for the player. Install and launch it.
  2. Log in the same way as above (Xtream Codes details or MAC registration).
  3. In the app’s player settings, choose the native player when it is offered. The internal webOS player handles HEVC and audio better than the software fallback.
  4. Point the Magic Remote at the category list and use the scroll wheel: it is much quicker than the arrow keys for long channel lists.
  5. If the picture stutters, open the TV’s own Picture menu and switch off TruMotion for that input: motion smoothing fights with the 25 or 50 fps streams and produces visible judder.

Settings that make or break the experience

Network

Wherever possible, plug the TV into the router with an Ethernet cable. Smart TV Wi-Fi chips are modest, and the antenna is usually at the back of the panel, facing a wall. If you must use Wi-Fi, connect to the 5 GHz network and keep the router in the same room. In the TV’s network settings, set the DNS manually (for example 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8) rather than leaving the ISP default; it shortens the time the app spends resolving the server address.

Memory

Samsung and LG TVs keep several apps open in the background. Before launching IPTV, close the other streaming apps from the recent list, and restart the TV once a week (hold the power button on the remote for about five seconds). It sounds basic, yet it solves most “app closes by itself” complaints.

Picture mode

Switch to Cinema or Filmmaker mode and disable noise reduction and motion interpolation. Default “Dynamic” modes oversharpen compressed streams and make blocky artefacts stand out.

Common errors and the fix for each

  • “Playlist not found” or an empty channel list on a MAC-based app: the address has not been registered yet, or you read it from the wrong screen. Send a photo of the app’s start screen to support.
  • Channels start, then freeze after a few seconds: switch the stream format from TS to HLS, then increase the buffer in the app settings if the option exists.
  • Black screen with sound: the TV cannot decode that stream’s codec. Choose the HD version of the channel rather than the FHD/H.265 one.
  • App no longer in the store: it has been withdrawn in your region. Install one of the alternatives; your subscription is not tied to a specific app.
  • PIN prompt does not appear on the locked category: the lock is stored per app, not per account. Re-create it after reinstalling or after a TV reset.

When a box is worth adding anyway

If your TV is old, if you want recording, or if you simply want the same interface on several screens, a small Android box or streaming stick plugged into HDMI removes every limitation listed above. Our multi-screen plans cover a TV app and an external device at the same time. Readers with Apple hardware can also check our guide to IPTV on Apple TV and iPhone, and the FAQ covers the questions we hear most about device compatibility.

Ready to try it on your TV?

Compare the plans on our pricing page, then send us your TV model and, if needed, the app’s MAC address on WhatsApp at +33 7 56 75 72 87 or by email at contact@iptvpremiumpro.com. We reply with the exact app to install for your model, and you can also use the contact form. Setup on a Samsung or LG TV usually takes under ten minutes once the details are in hand.
